Happy Anniversayear!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
There was a time in my not-so-distant past when I would spend ample amounts of time planning exactly how, where and with whom I would spend New Year's Eve. Celebrating it in Accra is always eventful, whether it's in church thanking God for another year on this earth, or at a party or club dancing the night away with reckless abandon.
Last night I was at home, in bed, asleep, by 11pm.
It's amazing how a few years and a few life-altering events can change your outlook on certain things. The woman I am today was in a reflective mood yesterday, pondering over the whirlwind that was last year, and quietly anticipating the commemoration of my marriage anniversary, which also falls on January 1 (yes, I said "MARRIAGE ANNIVERSARY" instead of "WEDDING ANNIVERSARY." I'll explain later).
January 1 has become an important day for personal reasons, obviously. The interesting thing that I realized today was how little I was concerned with the hoopla and glitz that usually surrounds New Year's celebrations and how significant the simple things have become.
I did, however, give considerable thought to my New Year resolutions. You know how it goes: you start the year full of motivation and zeal, determined to hit every goal you've set and constantly reassuring yourself that this will be "the" year. Then February rolls around and the chocolate temptations of Valentine's Day lure you into that recurring trap of diet relapse, or life's little stresses distract you from starting that book or trying those new recipes or even visiting those interesting places you've always wanted to see. Is it really that difficult? Apparently so. Just ask the 40 or so pounds that added themselves to my frame last year. And that was after I had my baby boy. More details on that later.
I'm already keeping to one resolution, which is to start and keep this blog! The thing is, I also promised to work on being a better wife (to which my hubby replied that I was positively awesome in the wife department. He is a gem!), so I need to log off the computer now and join him in the bedroom. It is our anniversary, remember? :D
I'll be back with subsequent blogs to explain some of the points I mentioned in this post, and to discuss a few other things, like my love/hate relationship with my Tae Bo tapes. Random, I know.
In the meantime, may 2012 be your year!
Peace.
