It's just the beginning

Yesterday went quite well with the "raw till dinner" experiment. Thankfully, fruit till noon is not a problem for me at all. In fact, I could eat fruit all day. I've read a bit about "fruitarians" and the concept of getting most of your daily calorie intake from fruits and there are arguments for and against this. There are those who believe that a raw fruitarian diet is unhealthy and will introduce too much sugar into your system, whereas those in favour say they are in great health and that it's the right kind of sugar so it's no problem! I'm still waiting to see if there's a noticeable difference in eating this way for 2 weeks, then I'll decide how to proceed from there.

So yesterday was fruit till noon (bananas,  pawpaw, several pieces of pineapple, oranges) and lunch was a green salad (lettuce, spring onions, green peppers, cucumber and avocado). I'm still not sure about quantity though, meaning that I don't know if I should eat unlimited quantities or not. I'm not really restricting quantities yet, but we'll see how things look after 2 weeks. For dinner I made some light soup with chicken. For non-Ghanaians, light soup is a brothy soup with a tomato base (it's not as thick as tomato soup) and it's seasoned with garlic, ginger, pepper and other spices you might want to add. The chicken I used was some leftover grilled chicken pieces. Usually you can start the soup with fresh chicken that we steam but this turned out pretty good! It won high praise from the hubbster :).Had that with some boiled plantains (sounds like a weird combo, I know, but I'm practically addicted to plantain cooked in any form, plus my 9 month old loves it so that was his dinner). All in all, not a bad day.

I should also add a couple of things that I'm doing in the morning and evening to see if they help to boost results. In the morning I drink a mug of warm water with lemon about half an hour before I start eating fruit. I've heard that this can be cleansing for your system first thing in the morning. I also take a mug of dieter's tea at night before I go to bed. This obviously encourages a couple of bowel movements (sorry if that's TMI!). I'm trying the tea at night for a week but I'll continue the lemon in the morning for the full two weeks. We'll see how it goes.

For some reason I was in a horrible mood yesterday. It just seemed like every little thing rubbed me the wrong way. I was snapping at hubby and my brother who came over to visit. I just couldn't snap out of it. Hubby took a long look at me and said "is your period coming?" And you know what, it is due. I'm always the first to say I don't have mood swings around that time of the month, but as those close to me have pointed out, I do have them...and they're not pretty, apparently! Supposedly, evening primrose supplements can help with this, and hubby got me a big tub of them. They're sitting on the table. Perhaps I should take one...

On a depressing yet motivating note, hubbster just brought home pics from a concert I did last month. Here's a few of them. I'm thinking these are going to be my "before" pics. *sigh* :(
